Indian Navy Rescues Ailing Man From CMA CGM Vessel

The Indian Navy saved the life of an ailing French national from the French-flagged container vessel CMA CGM Palais Royal on January 16th in a remarkable mid-sea medical rescue operation off the coast of Mumbai. The Indian Navy responded quickly to the patient’s apparent illness, which was likely a neurological or ocular condition.

In response to an alert, INS Shikra immediately deployed the Naval Advanced Light Helicopter, ALH MK III (MR), in an ambulance capacity. The merchant vessel didn’t have a good landing place, so a specific rescue method was required. The patient was expertly winched up in a rescue basket from the confined space of the bridge wing using precision and skill.

The success of the rescue effort was significantly improved by the ALH MK III (MR) helicopter, which was equipped with cutting-edge equipment for safety, communication, observation, and survival. After the successful operation, the ailing person was safely carried by helicopter to INS Shikra, demonstrating the naval crew’s agility and capability.

INS Shikra, well-known for providing logistical, technical, and administrative support to flights and squadrons based in Mumbai, played an essential part in the rescue effort. The naval facility also conducts air surveillance, patrols the coast, and carries out the operational flying duties of the Western fleet.
