The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said that it was tracking the developments in the Red Sea in response to the escalating scenario there, and the nation would provide support and aid to foreign trade enterprises.
The parties concerned are expected to help restore and facilitate the security of shipping lanes in the waters of the Red Sea, a spokesperson associated with the ministry mentioned in a statement late Thursday.
The ministry added that it hopes that the parties jointly safeguard the flow of supply chains and global production and the usual order of international trade.
The Houthis have reportedly launched several attacks since November 2023 on vessels in the waters of the Red Sea, in what they state is an effort to support the Palestinians during the Israeli war against the Hamas in Gaza. However, several vessels targeted have had zero ties with Israel whatsoever.
These attacks are part of a broader response to the Gaza conflict by a so-called Axis of Resistance that includes Hamas, the Houthis, and Hezbollah — backed by Iran.
