US-owned Bulk Carrier Surrounded By Unmanned Aerial Vehicles Off Yemen

A US-owned bulk carrier flying the Marshall Islands flag stated that four unmanned aerial vehicles (abbreviated UAVs) approached as well as circled the vessel approximately 87 miles to the southeast of Mukalla, Yemen, based on a report released on Thursday by the British maritime security company Ambrey.

Per reports, one of the UAVs crashed into the ocean. There were no reported injuries or damages. In an advising declaration, Ambrey said the bulker remained unharmed and continued its journey.

The drones continued to hover near the bulker, according to the marine security company, emphasizing that this was the second occurrence involving the unnamed vessel.

In addition, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (abbreviated UKMTO) reported that it had been notified of a case that occurred 85 nautical miles southeast of Ash Shihr, Yemen. It did not provide any further information. Since November, the Houthi movement in Yemen has targeted vessels in the area, slowing trade between Europe and Asia and unnerving global powers.

The Houthis, who rule across the majority of Yemen and are aligned with Iran, say that they are acting in sympathy with the Palestinians in Gaza and have also pledged to intensify their attacks. To hinder the Houthi group’s capacity to launch attacks in the Red Sea, the US and Britain found a string of attacks on their targets.
