Singapore’s First LNG Bunker Vessel, Brassavola, Completes Its Maiden Ship-to-Ship Operation

Singapore-based Pavilion Energy has reached an essential milestone in the liquefied natural gas (LNG) bunkering industry by successfully deploying its newbuild LNG Bunker Vessel, Brassavola, for its first Ship-to-Ship (STS) LNG bunkering operation. The operation at Singapore’s busiest port witnessed the delivery of 1970 metric tonnes of LNG to Mount Api, a Rio Tinto chartered dual-fueled bulk carrier.

Brassavola, Singapore’s first Membrane LNG Bunker Vessel, features dual-fuel engines and can load and bunker up to 2,000m³ per hour. This improved capacity improves operational efficiency and allows for faster bunker rotation, which aligns with Pavilion Energy’s commitment to promoting the maritime industry’s decarbonisation goals.

Mr. Malcolm Lim, Division Head of Pavilion Energy’s Singapore Hub, expressed excitement in advancing their LNG bunkering solutions, highlighting the shift from truck to STS bunkering as evidence of their team’s operational experience. Lim highlighted Brassavola’s critical role in encouraging environmental stewardship, citing increased customer demand for the vessel’s deployment as evidence of LNG’s sustained viability as a transitional marine fuel.

Brassavola, commissioned by Pavilion Energy to supply LNG bunkers at the Port of Singapore, was built by Seatrium Limited and delivered barely two weeks before its first STS bunkering operation. Brassavola is owned by Indah Singa Maritime Pte. Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Mitsui O.S.K Lines, is well-positioned to help address the growing need for cleaner marine fuel.

Moving forward, Pavilion Energy intends Brassavola to expand its operations to satisfy rising customer demand for LNG bunkers. This initiative will be supported by the company’s global LNG bunker supply partner networks in Europe and China, resulting in more convenient and efficient bunkering solutions for customers worldwide.
