Houthis targeted a Singapore-flagged vessel on March 8, 2024, in a recent series of attacks; however, they missed the target, and the missiles exploded near the vessel.

The ship Propel Fortune was in the Gulf of Aden when its crew reportedly saw flashes after missiles shot by Houthis exploded near the vessel around 9:00 pm ( Singapore time) on March 8.
The ship did not sustain any damages, and its 26-member crew was safe. The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) spokesperson added that the vessel is on its way to the Arabian Sea.
The MPA has established contact with the shipowner to assist if needed. A day later, Houthi spokesperson Yahya Sarea accepted responsibility for the attack in a speech he delivered on March 9.
He mentioned that they carried out two operations, the first targeting the American vessel Propel Fortune with naval missiles and the second targeting American warships using 37 drones. His speech suggested that Houthis mistook Propel Fortune as an American-owned vessel.
The United States has supported Israel, whereas Houthis and Hamas are backed by Iran. The Houthis are targeting ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden to pressure Israel to stop killing the people of Gaza.
The conflict, which started between Hamas and Israel, has already displaced and killed thousands of Palestinian families and destroyed infrastructure, including hospitals, churches, mosques, and even schools and universities.
On March 9, the U.S Central Command mentioned that U.S Naval Ships and Aircraft successfully targeted 15 UAVs of the Houthis in the Red Sea in retaliation for the latter’s attack between 4:00 am and 6:30 am. ( local time) that day.
Centcom said that the UAVs were a threat to the region’s commercial ships and US Naval Ships.
The recent attack on this ship is similar to the missile strike by Houthis, which targeted the Ship True Confidence on March 6. It killed three crew members and injured 4 of the 20 member-crew, per sources.
