Singapore-Flagged Ship Experienced Momentary Propulsion Loss Before Bridge Collision In Baltimore

A 10,000 TEU, Singapore-flagged vessel involved in a massive bridge collision in Baltimore, US, had a momentary loss of propulsion. The city-state’s Maritime and Port Authority (abbreviated the MPA) reported this right before the incident on Tuesday.

The ship’s management firm, Synergy Marine Pte Ltd, reported to the MPA that just before the incident, the ship Dali experienced a momentary loss of propulsion, per the authority.

As a result, the ship could not maintain optimum heading and crashed into the Francis Scott Key bridge, it said, also adding that the vessel dropped anchors as part of emergency strategies before the impact.

According to vessel information offered by the Synergy Marine Group, the 22 crew aboard the ship were all Indian. The Dali boasts onboard units of 4,679 TEU. Grace Ocean Private Ltd owns the Dali, which was heading from Baltimore to Colombo.

The container ship, operated by Synergy Group, is time chartered by the shipping major Maersk and transports Maersk customers’ cargo. According to the statement, no Maersk crew or personnel were on the vessel.

It was not apparent what caused the cargo ship to collide with the bridge. It also wasn’t evident how many people could be in the water.
