The US Department of Treasury levied new Iran-specific counterterrorism sanctions against the UAE-based Oceanlink Maritime DMCC and its vessels on April 4, 2024, referring to its role in shipping commodities on behalf of Iran’s military.
The US is employing financial sanctions to isolate Iran and disrupt the Iranian ability to fund proxy groups and support Russia in its war in Ukraine, the Treasury Department declared.
The UAE-based Oceanlink manages a fleet of over a dozen vessels shipping Iran’s commodities, per the Treasury.
The US Treasury Department said that HECATE, the vessel managed by Oceanlink Maritime DMCC, recently loaded Iran’s commodities valued at more than 100 million dollars through a ship-to-ship transfer from yet another sanctioned tanker.
A series of Western and US sanctions have been targeting Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region and worldwide, per the Treasury in a statement.
Iran retains a network of proxies in the Middle East, including in Syria, Lebanon, Yemen, and Iraq.
