U.S Navy and Lockheed Martin achieved a historic feat after they performed a historic LRASM flight test.
In the 12th integrated Test Event, the Long-Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) flight test involved four missiles that were in flight simultaneously.
Through this test, the U.S Navy demonstrated the weapon’s effectiveness and lethality from mission planning to kill chain integration and target precision.
All the mission goals were accomplished, reinforcing confidence in the missiles’ capacity to destroy their target with their superior firepower.
LRASM is a part of the AGM-158 family of cruise missiles. It promises to deliver long-range and lethal capacity against highly defended surface combatants that no other weapon can offer.
This stealth missile, with a 200 nautical mile or 370 km range, can be launched from an aircraft. Its GPS-assisted guidance system helps it find its target and destroy it.
However, the main feature that sets it apart from other weapons is its ability to change its course rapidly.
Lisbeth Vogelpohl, LRASM Program Director at Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said the company invested in designing and developing LRASM’s anti-surface warfare capacity to enable the Navy to complete its missions and solve 21st-century security issues.
The successful flight of this weapon was a big win for Lockheed Martin and the U.S Navy. It also tested the missiles’ new configuration, laying the groundwork for more advanced capabilities.
