Indian Navy Conducts Extensive Maritime Security Exercise ‘Poorvi Leher’ Along East Coast

On April 20, 2024, the Indian Navy conducted an extensive exercise along the East Coast to assess its preparedness to meet maritime security challenges.

The Indian Navy reported performing Exercise Poorvi Lehar on the country’s East Coast under the Eastern Naval Command’s Operational Control of the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief.

It mentioned that the exercise was intended to validate the procedures for assessing the Navy’s preparedness to satisfy the maritime security challenges in the area.

It reported that the exercise was performed in different phases, including combat training in a realistic tactical scenario and the fruitful conduct of different firings during the weapon phase, which aimed to reaffirm the Navy’s capability to provide ordnance on target.

With aircraft operating from various locations, almost continuous maritime domain awareness was retained in the area of operations, which the Navy disclosed in its statement.

It mentioned that in addition to assets from the Eastern Naval Command, the activity witnessed assets from Andaman and Nicobar Command, the IAF, and the Coast Guard, indicating a high degree of interoperability among the services.

The Navy added that the exercise further offered valuable lessons to the participating forces operating under realistic conditions, enhancing the readiness to respond to regional maritime issues.
