Houthis Attack 3 Israeli Ships in 24 Hours, Expands Target Area to Mediterranean & Arabian Seas

Houthis have expanded their target areas and increased attacks on regional shipping in response to continuing Israel’s attacks in Gaza, which have killed thousands of civilians, including women and children.

Recently, the Group targeted 3 Israeli vessels in the Mediterranean, Arabian and Red Seas, according to Houthi Spokesperson Yahya Sarea.

He mentioned in a speech broadcasted on television that Houthis attacked Yannis Ship in the Red Sea, MSC Alexandria in the Arabian Sea and Essex in the Mediterranean Sea.

Despite U.S efforts and those of other allies, the Houthis have not ceased attacking commercial shipping.

They launched many missiles at the Essex, claiming it violated a ban that prevents vessels from entering the occupied ports in Palestine.

The Houthis have made their stance quite clear. At the beginning of May, Houthi Leader Abdul Malik al-Houthi stated that all vessels on their way to Israel would not be spared, irrespective of the region.

Houthi ship attacks were concentrated in the Red Sea, but now the Mediterranean Sea and the Arabian Sea have also come under their region of attack.

Since October, Houthis have used drones and missiles to target the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Bab-al Mandeb Strait.

The uncertainty and safety issues have forced shipping companies to reroute their ships around Southern Africa, increasing shipping costs and time. It has also led to a fear that the Israel-Hamas conflict could create an imbalance in the Middle East.
