The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) carried out a high-risk medical evacuation of a seriously ill crew member from the Motor Tanker (MT) Zeal, a private vessel approximately 20 kilometres off the Porbandar coast.
The MT Zeal issued an SOS after one of its crew members experienced lower-body numbness and an extremely low pulse.
Responding quickly, the ICG launched an Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) on July 21 despite adverse weather circumstances.
The Indian Coast Guard stated that despite heavy rainfall, high-intensity winds, and adverse conditions, the ICG aircraft ALH crew expertly navigated to the MT Zeal.

The helicopter maintained a precise position over the vessel, allowing for the effective deployment of a rescue basket to evacuate the sick crew member.
After landing at the Coast Guard Air Enclave in Porbandar, ICG medical personnel provided the patient with interim relief.
The statement added that once the patient’s condition was stable, he was handed over to the local agent for further medical management.
The patient, an Indian crew member aboard the Gabon Republic-flagged MT Zeal, was taken to Porbandar for further medical treatment.
The heroic rescue demonstrates the ICG’s dedication to maritime security and its ability to carry out challenging operations under harsh conditions.
