Guests onboard several cruise ships recently set a new Guinness World Record for the largest pizza party. Princess Cruises based in Santa Clarita, California became the record holder after it organised this pizza party onboard multiple ships.
Passengers on the Princess Cruises ships ate over 60,000 pizza slices during the record-breaking attempt on July 12, 2024, which involved 11,445 people consuming pizza across 16 cruise ships in the Caribbean, Alaska and Europe.
The cruise line told the media that this event was held to celebrate its partnership with 13-time world pizza champion Chef Tony Gemignani.
The Pizzas contained over 6500 pounds of dough, over 3400 pounds of flour, 2300 pounds of cheese and 1400 pounds of pepperoni slices.
John Padgett, the Princess Cruises President said that they were excited to set another world record, offering exciting opportunities for their guests.
He added that there was no way to announce their collaboration with the legendary Chef other than organising this exciting event.
He said that tapping into Tony’s experience and passion for pizza shows the commitment of the cruise line to bring the best pizza to their guests at sea.
Gemignani has two pizzas exclusively onboard Princess Cruise Ships.
This is not the first time that Princess Cruises has undertaken such an event or broken a world record, It also has a 2020 world record for the largest marriage vow renewal ceremony involving over 1443 couples on 3 of its ships.
Princess Cruises started in 1995 with a cruise to Mexico and has since then catered to around 2 million people annually to several destinations around the world.
It has a fleet of 16 cruise ships which visit more than 330 ports with trips ranging from 3 to 111 days.
