Captain Of Mike Lynch’s Bayesian SuperYacht Under Probe For Potential Manslaughter

According to media reports, the captain of the Bayesian Superyacht that sank off the coast of Sicily last week is being investigated for potential manslaughter and culpable shipwreck.

The 51-year-old James Cutfield hails from New Zealand and is among the 15 people who were saved after the luxury yacht sank, taking 7 people, including the UK’s Tech Tycoon Mike Lynch and his daughter.

The decision was made after Cutfield was interrogated for a second time. However, under Italian laws, being under investigation does not make someone guilty and does not lead to criminal charges.

Prosecutors have said that the investigation is at an early phase and did not name any suspects yet.

Lynch, a 59-year-old entrepreneur and investor, had invited his family and friends onto the yacht to celebrate his acquittal in a U.S. fraud case.

However, the 56-meter luxury yacht Bayesian was struck by a tornado as it was anchored off Porticello, close to Palermo.

The dead body of the cook was retrieved, and six people, including Lynch and his daughter, were reported missing.

After a major research operation, divers found their bodies along with four other bodies of his friends.

The yacht lies on its side on the seabed, 50 meters down.

All six bodies were found in cabins near the surface, and officials said that they probably went there to find air pockets when it became difficult to breathe.
