In a tragic accident, 2 people lost their lives and 4 went missing when a service barge used in the maintenance of oil wells sank in Lake Maracaibo in the state of Zulia, Western Venezuela.
State-run oil company Petrleos de Venezuela informed about this accident on Thursday.
The firm stated that the incident occurred due to bad weather conditions that impacted the region. The barge called Chantase G belongs to SOSCA, the firm that is presently providing oil well maintenance services.
The company said that search and rescue work is continuing along with public safety organisations.
An Investigation Committee will look into the matter to determine what caused the accident. Per reports, support will be provided to the families of the victims.
The company also offered condolences to the families of the deceased.
