Artemis Technologies To Launch First 100% Electric Pilot Boat For Sweden

The Swedish Maritime Administration (SMA) has awarded Artemis Technologies, a maritime technology company, a contract to build a fully electric pilot boat.

The project complies with Sweden’s commitment to the Fossil-Free Sweden Initiative and its national climate objectives.

The Artemis EF-12 will be the first of its kind to operate in Nordic waters. It is designed to improve maritime safety and efficiency and contribute to Sweden’s target of achieving net-zero emissions in the maritime industry by 2045.

The pilot boat will provide essential pilotage services for ships crossing Sweden’s busy offshore shipping routes.

The electric pilot boat will be powered by Artemis Technologies’ unique eFoiler® system, which produces zero emissions. The hydrofoil technology lifts the boat’s hull above the water, reducing drag and improving energy consumption.

This feature not only provides a smoother and quieter ride but also reduces wake impact, which protects marine ecosystems, shorelines, and other vessels in the area.

Dr. Iain Percy, CEO of Artemis Technologies, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative, stating that their eFoiler® technology represents the future of maritime transportation.
