Conrad Shipyard delivered the first Yard, Repair, Berthing, and Messing (YRBM) vessel to the United States Navy. The delivery took place at Conrad’s facility in Amelia, Louisiana, after a final examination by top Navy officials.
The YRBM 57, the first of its class, was designed and built by Conrad Shipyard to meet the U.S. Navy’s operational requirements.
The vessel recently completed Acceptance Trials in the challenging conditions of Hurricane Francine, proving the vessel’s resilience and operational readiness.
The delivery is part of a bigger contract with Conrad Shipyard, which is currently building seven more vessels of the same class.
The next two vessels, YRBM 61 and YRBM 62, are now being built. Navy officials ceremonially signed the hull plates at the Amelia shipyard on Wednesday, October 16.
A Navy representative highlighted the vessel’s importance, saying that Conrad Shipyard’s performance on YRBM 57 was commendable and that the vessel is intended to improve the quality of life for sailors.
The YRBM 57 will be stationed in Japan to support US Navy operations in the region.
Johnny Conrad, CEO of Conrad Shipyard, expressed pride in the shipyard’s accomplishments, mentioning the dedication of everyone involved and the vessel’s essential role in assisting U.S. Navy troops.
