Israel Bound Ship Unloads 8 Containers With 150,000 Kg RDX Explosives At Alexandria Port

Notable Egyptian Journalist Rasha Azab, Human Rights Lawyer Mahienour El-Masri, and many others have filed a complaint to the Public Prosecutor over the docking of a German vessel in Egypt, loaded with explosives destined for Israel.

The activists stated that the shipment of explosives endangers Egyptian and Arab National Security and it also means that Egypt is complicit in this war.

The complainants also added that they cannot let Egypt become a gateway for military aid to Israeli occupation, as the explosives on the ship called MV Kathrin are meant for Israeli forces, accused of using them against civilians in Gaza and Lebanon.

They have demanded the ship be seized and an immediate investigation into the Egyptian firm EMCO which is said to have assisted with the ship’s arrival.

MV Kathrin reached the Port of Alexandria on October 28 after many countries, including Malta, Namibia, and Angola, refused to let it into their ports.

MV Kathrin began its voyage 2 months ago when authorities in Namibia found it loaded with military-grade explosives. The Portuguese government demanded that the vessel stop flying the Portuguese flag, after which it began sailing under the German Flag.

After sailing off the radar for more than a week, the ship was seen in Porto-Romano in Albania and finally at the military dock of Port Alexandria. This caused alarm among the Pro-Palestine groups over Egypt helping deliver military material to Israel.

Per reports, the vessel unloaded 8 containers having 150,000 kg of RDX explosives, used for making bombs, rockets and lethal weapons. It is meant for Israeli Military Industries, a subsidiary of Elbit Systems, Israel’s biggest military company.

Amnesty International also confirmed that Egypt had allowed the MV Kathrine to offload at Alexandria Port, despite the risk that the cargo could contribute to the war crimes in Gaza, adding that Egypt must not assist in this unlawful transfer.

The Government of Egypt has confirmed the ship’s arrival but has denied playing a role in transferring weapons to Israel.

The ship has also requested permission to depart to the Port of Haydarpasa, Turkey.
