A ship named Gam Express sent a distress signal near Port Kavkaz in the Kerch Strait, with the seafarers expressing their helpless conditions onboard the vessel, per Russia’s Southern Transport Prosecutor’s Office.
Interfax News Agency cited the Russian Sailors’s Union which said they received a request for assistance from the Gam Express.
The sailors onboard did not have food or drinking water and they had not been paid their wages since August.
Food was delivered to them on 16th November and now it is all finished. They sent an SOS signal and hoped to enter the port.
The ship is sailing under the Guinea Bissau flag and per international law, it could be seized if the seafarers’ wages are not paid off.
The vessel has 16 crew members, 15 being citizens of Syria and 1 from Egypt.
