German manufacturer of large diesel engines and pioneer of many world firsts, MAN Energy Solutions, has officially changed its name to Everllence.
The rebranding was revealed on May 27 during a special ceremony at the company’s headquarters in Augsburg, Germany. Similar unveiling events were held at other key European sites, including Oberhausen, Berlin, Zurich, and Copenhagen.
The company said this new name reflects its expanded role in offering clean energy solutions to industries that face significant challenges in cutting emissions. This includes sectors such as shipping, power generation, and heavy industry.
Everllence CEO Uwe Lauber said that the name change is a logical step in continuing their current strategy called “Moving big things to zero”, which focuses on decarbonisation and efficiency.
According to him, the company is no longer known just for engines and turbomachinery, but also for offering technologies like large heat pumps, carbon capture and storage, and climate-neutral shipping. It also plays an active role in supporting the hydrogen economy.
Gunnar Kilian, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Everllence and a member of the Volkswagen Group’s board, said the new name reflects the company’s transformation into a key global player in sustainable technologies.
He highlighted its 250-year history of innovation and industrial leadership. He also said that the company will continue to contribute to climate protection and the global energy transition while supporting the future of mechanical engineering in Germany and beyond.
Despite the new identity, Everllence will remain a part of the Volkswagen Group, and there will be no change in its product and service portfolio.
Why the Name Everllence?
The new name Everllence combines the words “ever” and “excellence”. The company explained that “ever” represents its long-standing history and continuous innovation. Over the past 250 years, the company has contributed to many world-firsts in industrial engineering, like the first diesel engine, the first diesel-powered ocean-going vessel, the first wind turbine, and the largest fluvial heat pump.
The second part, “excellence,” stands for its strong focus on high-quality engineering and technology. It also refers to excellence in all areas, from internal processes and leadership to collaboration with partners and overall corporate responsibility.
This is not the first time the company has changed its name. In 2018, it moved from being MAN Diesel & Turbo to MAN Energy Solutions to highlight its growing focus on reducing emissions in the shipping, energy, and industrial sectors.
That transition led to the development of advanced technologies aimed at cutting down emissions from hard-to-abate industries. Today, under its strategy “Moving big things to zero,” the company helps clients reduce emissions using various solutions, from marine and power-plant engines that work with low-emission fuels, to retrofit systems that cut CO₂ output.
It also builds large-scale heat pumps to decarbonise heating systems in cities and factories, and develops carbon capture and storage (CCS) systems that help remove unavoidable emissions from industrial operations.
