The Disney Destiny floated out of the Meyer Werft Shipyard in Germany for the very first time, and crowds gathered around to witness the occasion on August 9, 2025.
This marks the moment when the ship transitioned from dry to wet dock. The float-out ceremony is celebrated since it’s the first time a new ship touches water.
When the 144,000-gross-ton ship came out of Hall 6, colourful fireworks were fired, which is appropriate considering Disney is the only cruise line which offers fireworks at sea.
Just like its older sister, Disney Treasure, the 4000 passenger ship is also getting its signature theme song.
The crowds also got to hear the ship’s horn play out ‘When You Wish Upon a Star’ (from Pinocchio) for the first time, which is a nostalgic horn song which serves as the cruise line’s famous calling card.
Though Disney revealed sneak peeks of what to expect along the way, this is the first time cruise fans were able to see everything finished and put together on the LNG-fueled masterpiece.
The ship came out of the construction hall with its stern revealed first, with a mounted Spiderman and Spider-bots catching everyone’s attention.
This is the first cruise ship to feature a Marvel character in the bow or stern, meaning the reveal is really historic.
Minnie Mouse was also there to greet the new ship, and debuted a special hero outfit which matched the artwork of Minnie on the bow of the ship.
Disney Destiny is on its way to completion, with another milestone met for the first time during her float out.
The cruise ship successfully docked for the first time.
Workers would put the finishing touches on the ship’s interior before sending her off on sea trials in the coming months.
She will make her way to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for her maiden voyage on November 20, 2025, to Disney’s private islands in the Bahamas.
