Atlas Ocean Voyages Plans Wind-Powered Luxury Expedition Yacht For 2028 Launch

Atlas Ocean Voyages has announced plans to build a new luxury expedition sailing yacht that will enter service in 2028.

The vessel, named Atlas Adventurer, will be a state-of-the-art expedition sailing yacht designed to combine modern technology with high-end comfort.

According to the company, the ship will use a hybrid propulsion system supported by solid sails, allowing near-silent and zero-emission sailing when wind and sea conditions permit.

Atlas Ocean Voyages said the new Atlas-class vessel will be 690 feet long and capable of accommodating up to 400 guests, supported by a crew of 275.

The yacht will feature three carbon-fibre masts with rigid, adjustable sails designed to improve efficiency and reduce fuel use during voyages.

The ship will be equipped with dual-fuel engines and electric-hybrid propulsion, supported by a large nine-megawatt marine battery system.

The company explained that this system will allow the vessel to maintain higher speeds even in light wind conditions, while operating with minimal noise.

Atlas Adventurer will have stabilisers that work even when stationary, two vertical fins for extra stability, a stronger hull, and will meet Ice Class 1B (Polar Category C) standards for polar waters.

This will allow the yacht to operate safely in light ice conditions and travel confidently across a wide range of global destinations.

James A. Rodriguez, President and Chief Executive Officer of Atlas Ocean Voyages, said the new vessel marks the next phase of the company’s growth. He added that it will enable Atlas to expand into regions that guests have been requesting.

The yacht will offer all-suite accommodation across every category, with increased space and onboard amenities.

Atlas Ocean Voyages said the vessel will provide a wider selection of dining, wellness and social experiences, while maintaining the brand’s boutique hospitality approach.

Onboard facilities will include seven dining venues, featuring specialty restaurants and a new culinary studio offering hands-on learning and destination-inspired programmes.

The ship will also include five lounges and bar spaces, two outdoor bars, an expanded fitness and wellness centre and a large swimming pool.

For expedition activities, Atlas Adventurer will be equipped with Zodiacs, luxury motorboats and a marina platform with an ocean pool to support water-based exploration.

The vessel is also designed to comply with future zero-emission port requirements, allowing access to exclusive and environmentally sensitive ports.

Mario Ferreira, Chairman, Founder and Owner of Mystic Invest Holding, Atlas Ocean Voyages’ parent company, said the vessel represents a new generation of luxury expedition sailing yachts, combining traditional wind-powered sailing concepts with modern solid-sail and electric propulsion technology.

From late 2028, Atlas Adventurer is expected to operate itineraries across Asia, including South Korea, Japan, China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines.

The yacht will also sail to destinations in Africa, including the Seychelles, Tanzania, Madagascar, Kenya, Mozambique and South Africa.

The company has also opened early-access priority reservations for guests interested in sailing during the inaugural season.
