CMA CGM Receives Its 400th Owned Vessel, CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO

CMA CGM has taken delivery of its 400th owned vessel, the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO. The vessel is the first of six 15,000-TEU methanol-powered container ships ordered by the company.

The CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO will enter commercial service on 29 January 2026 in Ningbo.

It will operate on the BEX2 – Phoenician Express service, which connects North Asia with the Levant and the Adriatic Sea.

The vessel has a maximum capacity of 16,204 TEU and is fitted with around 1,000 plugs for refrigerated containers. It is 366 metres long and 51 metres wide and will sail under the Maltese flag.

The ship is operated by a crew of 23 seafarers and is commanded by Captain Predrag Vojvodic.

The company has stated that the vessel meets high standards for safety, comfort and accommodation.

Built at DSIC Tianjin Shipyard, the CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO held its naming ceremony on 21 January 2026 in Tianjin.

The ship was named in the presence of representatives from the Group, with Liu Liping, Deputy General Manager of EPPEN BIOTECH, acting as the godmother.

With the addition of this vessel, CMA CGM now owns 400 ships within a total fleet of more than 650 vessels operating worldwide.

The Group said this shows its long-term focus on owning vessels and using new technologies to improve fleet efficiency and cut emissions.

The CMA CGM MONTE CRISTO is the 11th methanol-powered container ship in the CMA CGM fleet. A total of 24 methanol-fuelled vessels are currently on order.

CMA CGM has reaffirmed its goal of achieving Net Zero Carbon by 2050. As part of this effort, the Group plans to operate around 200 dual-fuel LNG and methanol container ships by 2031, capable of running on lower-carbon fuels.
