The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) announced that it had received the 15 Filipino survivors and 2 dead crew members of the ship M/V Devon Bay from the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG).
The vessel was carrying iron ore when it left Gutalac, Zamboanga del Norte, for Guangdong, China.
The ship’s last recorded position was around 262 km west of Sabangan Point, Ango Bay, Pangasinan, at 8:30 p.m., Jan. 22, 2026.
Per PCG, the Filipino crew were received in a turnover operation between the Philippine and the Chinese Coast Guard, 168 nm west of Tambobong, Pangasinan.
The crew were transferred with the aid of rigid-hull inflatable boats of both ships due to powerful waves prevailing in the region.
The two dead bodies of the deceased crew were also received and will be sent for adequate disposition in coordination with authorities and the mourning families.
PCG spokesperson Caitain Noemie Cayabyab expressed his gratitude to the Chinese Coast Guard for their humanitarian assistance efforts aimed at ensuring the safety of life at sea.
Cayabyab added that the ship BRP Teresa Magbanua (MRRV-9701), carrying the 17 crew members, will berth at Pier 13, Port Area, Manila on Monday morning.
Additionally, the Philippine Coast Guard assured the people that BRP Cape San Agustin and the PCG Islander aircraft are continuing their search to find the 4 missing Filipino crew in the distressed area.
