Ship Runs Aground In Philippines, Several Crew Members Missing

It has been reported that a cargo ship has run aground near the Philippines due to rough sea and heavy storm. The ship LCT Cebu Great Ocean had been navigating in the water of Surigao del Norte, in the Philippines when a super typhoon “Surigae” brewing in the Catbalogan province in Samar struck them.

The ship with 20 member crew was having about 2000 litres of diesel and nickel ore cargo at the time of the incident. The vessel had been abandoned by the crew as soon as it ran aground.

The wind speed was found to be 195 km per hour making the sea turbulent. Initially, the ship couldn’t be tracked and located as it drifted and ran aground at Cantapoy in Malimono in Surigao del Norte, revealed the coast guard.

Later on Tuesday, when the rescue operations were started again the coast guard could locate the ship. The search operation had to be halted on Monday because of rough weather that made it hard to see.

The crew had been traced and were reported to be adrift on a boat.

However, the latest local reports said that three crew members have lost their lives, ten are injured whereas the rest as still missing.
