Seafarer Booked For Forging US Visa Documents Denied Bail

A seafarer in his early 20s was booked for forging US visa documents. He was not granted bail by a sessions court that said that the youth travelling abroad on fake documents will tarnish the image of India.

The Bandra-Kurla Complex police booked the boy in 2021 based on a complaint filed by a US Consulate official. The US consulate’s assistant regional security officer made a report mentioning that he was assigned the work of verifying documents and interviewing those who had submitted applications for US visas.

Per the FIR, the officer taking interviews and examining documents last month suspected the documents to be fake. With his application, he had shared a Seafarer’s Employment Contract along with a CDC, a document that identifies a seafarer. To check if the company had made an offer, the officer emailed the company mentioned. The company replied confirmed that those documents had been forged.

An offence was lodged against the 22-year-old per sections that pertain to forgery of our Indian Penal Code and cheating. A magistrate’s court rejected the bail plea last month, observing that the investigations were ongoing.

The sessions court added that if this boy would be granted bail right now, it could interfere in the ongoing probe.
