Watch: Norwegian Cruise Ship that Hit Iceberg, to Reach Seattle For Repairs

Videos from terrified passengers on a Norwegian Cruise vessel captured an iceberg struck by a ship near Alaska. Per CNN, the Norwegian Sun was on a nine-night-long trip, sailing toward Hubbard Glacier in Alaska, when it unexpectedly rammed into a “growler” iceberg on Saturday.

Videos posted on Twitter show a sizeable chunk of grey ice bobbling above the surface as the ship’s side nudged. Panicked onlookers were heard in the background as the ship collided with an iceberg of moderate size in the ocean’s middle.

As per news sources, the firm has confirmed that it has cancelled the remaining trip on the cruise. The ship has reached the port of Juneau to undergo a safety assessment.

A member associated with the Coast Guard Sector Juneau Prevention Team and specialized divers examined the damages to the vessel’s right front side and stated that it was still seaworthy and could go back to Seattle, the home port, for some necessary repairs.



The Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) mentioned that the ship was given clearance by the US Coast Guard and other relevant local maritime authorities to head back to Seattle while maintaining a reduced speed. All guests onboard will disembark in Seattle as planned originally.

No guests onboard reported injuries during the collision.
