Lisbon’s Cruise Ship Terminal Secures The Best Terminal In Europe Award

Lisbon’s cruise ship terminal has been rewarded with the “Best Cruise Terminal in Europe”, a prize by the World Cruise Awards highlighting the rising importance of the infrastructure for tourism and the city; it was declared on 22 November.

Lisbon’s category reportedly was up against the terminals in Civitavecchia, Amsterdam, Limassol, Portsmouth, Valletta, Monaco, Oslo, Malaga, Barcelona, Kiel, Rostock-Warnemunde, Zadar, the Port of Lisbon Authority (APL) elaborates, stressing that the award is a source of pride.

The distinction reflects Lisbon’s extraordinary conditions to accommodate guests and cruise vessels with rising demands, providing a service of excellence to those who are visiting the Portuguese capital, mentioned António Caracol, the APL manager.

Caracol stressed that the award given to the terminal – inaugurated in 2017 (November) following a €28 million investment – is essential at a stage when APL is working on a set of initiatives in a “strategy to enhance and qualify the city’s cruise industry”, at the level of sustainability.

He added that as a cruise and port destination, Lisbon could guarantee a sustainable response to future and current challenges.

Designed by Carrilho da Graça, a Portuguese architect, Lisbon’s cruise terminal spans an area of 13,800 m2 and a quay that measures 1,490m in length with the capacity to receive ships across sizes and types with a draught of up to 12 meters.

The World Cruise Awards, introduced in 2021, aim to recognize excellence in the global cruise industry and are a “sister” event to the World Travel Awards, which honour the ideal examples of leading practice in the tourism sector, mentions today’s press release.
