Two Ships Collide In Southeastern Vietnam, On The Long Tau River

On Saturday, February 11, two ships collided in Ho Chin Minh City’s Long Tau River. The vessels in question were Wanhai 288 from Singapore and Resurgence from the Bahamas, carrying 1383 and 600 containers, respectively. 

Wanhai was trying to reach the port while Resurgence was in the opposite direction. 

The impact left the two ships heavily damaged and many containers deformed. However, there wasn’t any oil spill or human casualty. 

So far, the whereabouts of the containers and the cause of the incident haven’t been disclosed by the authorities.

While Resurgence is moved to Cat Lai Newport, Wanhai can’t be moved and remains in the river. The authorities are waiting for the tides to rise so the ship can enter the port.

Long Tau is a crucial river for trade in Southeastern Vietnam, especially with the South China Sea.
