The second of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water boats (ASW SWC) built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, INS Androth, was launched on Tuesday with Dinesh K. Tripathi, Vice-Admiral and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief in Western Naval Command of India, serving as the event’s chief guest (GRSE).
These 77-meter-long, 25-knot-capable vessels were made specifically for minelaying, low-intensity maritime operations and anti-submarine operations in coastal areas.
They can conduct extensive sub-surface surveillance for different surface platforms thanks to their armament of lightweight torpedoes, ASW rockets, mines, and close-in weaponry systems such as a 30mm gun and a 16.7mm stabilized remote-operated gun.
