For The First Time In 6 Years, A U.S Nuclear Submarine Enters South Korea’s Busan Port

A US nuclear-powered submarine has reached a port in South Korea’s Busan, South Korea’s military mentioned on Friday.

It is the first time in almost six years that a submarine classified as the “SSGN” by the US Navy, or a cruise-missile submarine, has halted in South Korea.

The arrival took place after North Korea reportedly fired two short-range missiles off the country’s east coast on Thursday, followed by a failed trial by Pyongyang to introduce a spy satellite last month.

In April 2023, Yoon Suk Yeol, South Korea’s President, and Joe Biden, US President, agreed in Washington to enhance the visibility of all strategic assets on the Korean Peninsula.

The leaders agreed that a US Navy’s nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarine (SSBN) would visit South Korea. This would be the first time since the 1980s to reflect Washington’s resolve to safeguard the nation from a North Korean attack. No timetable was offered for such a visit.
