A crane was knocked over, and a dock at the Lloyd Werft shipyard was struck on July 9 when a car carrier broke free from its mooring and sailed adrift in Bremerhaven harbour.
The Bremen police department reports that there was significant property damage. The repairs’ combined worth and cost should be in the upper six figures.
According to AIS data and vessel records, the tanker was the Norwegian-flagged Don Quijote.
Thankfully, nobody was hurt.
Following the casualty, tugs secured the ship and brought her back to her original berth.
The authorities are looking into the reason for the fatality, and they think that inclement weather at the breakaway may have had anything to do with it.
