Philly Shipyard, Inc., the exclusive operating subsidiary of Philly Shipyard ASA, has officially revealed the contract it has been awarded to carry out the Feasibility Study for the T-AH(X) Hospital Ship in collaboration with Gibbs and Cox, a subsidiary of Leidos Inc.
In a comprehensive six-month design study, Philly Shipyard, Inc. will explore potential preliminary designs for replacing the US Navy’s two existing hospital ships: the USNS Mercy and USNS Comfort. These ships are presently owned by the US Navy and operated by the Military Sealift Command (MSC). Philly Shipyard has entered into a subcontract agreement with Vard Marine Inc. to facilitate the provision of engineering and technical services for this project.
Steinar Nerbovik, President and CEO of Philly Shipyard, expressed the company’s dedication to actively pursuing and securing government contracts, emphasizing their recent achievement.
He stated, “This contract win underscores our commitment to expanding our presence in the government market.” Nerbovik further highlighted Philly Shipyard’s strong track record, having completed previous design studies for the US Navy, and their eagerness to explore government opportunities that align with their production capabilities and expertise.
Nerbovik also expressed gratitude for the renewed collaboration with Vard Marine on this significant industry study, stating, “We are thrilled to join forces once again with Vard Marine for this important endeavor.”
Philly Shipyard and VARD will utilize the design work conducted during a previous particular study undertaken for the US Navy’s Common Hull Auxiliary Multi-Mission Platform (CHAMP) program, which they secured in 2019. This prior experience will serve as a valuable foundation for their current collaboration.
