Brazil’s Navy Seizes 3.6 Tonnes Of Cocaine, The Largest Offshore Drug Capture By Brazil

The Brazilian Navy mentioned on Tuesday that it had reportedly seized about 3.6 metric tons of cocaine on a vessel off the state of northeastern Pernambuco coast in Brazil’s single offshore capture of the drug.

In a statement, the Navy mentioned that it had captured a small motorboat used for transporting individuals and cargo along the coast with five crew members heading toward Africa. A patrol vessel towed the vessel to the port based in Recife.

The seizure follows a series of operations held by the Navy for fighting drug transportation on the country’s coast.

Per the Navy, over 17 tons of cocaine, 695 tons of cigarettes, 4.3 tons of hashish, 113.34 tons of fish, 3,146 cubic meters of wood, 14 tons of marijuana and have been reportedly seized since 2020.
