The USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier has landed in the eastern Mediterranean Sea as the US continues to deploy extra assets in the region amid the new Israeli-Palestinian escalation, according to the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to CENTCOM, the USS Gerald R. Ford Carrier Strike Group is set to serve the Eastern Mediterranean Sea to dissuade actors intending to exacerbate the situation or widen the war.
Efforts to strengthen US posture keep going, including the quick deployment of US Air Force F-16s, F-15s, and A-10s into theatre to augment current fighter units in the region.
According to Gen. Michael Kurilla, commander of US Central Command, the highly capable forces in the region are a sign of deterrence should those hostile to Israel attempt to take advantage of this situation.
The latest flare-up in the Middle East was prompted by Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israeli territory. According to the most recent statistics, battles and shelling have killed over 900 Palestinians and injured over 4,500 others while killing over 1,000 Israelis and injuring over 3,400 more.
Hamas reportedly has claimed responsibility for the bombing in response to Israeli efforts against Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. Israel has declared war preparations and a total closure of the Gaza Strip.
