US Sends Driverless Ships to Japan Amidst Tensions Over Taiwan and China

The United States Navy has sent two Unmanned Surface Vessels (USVs), The Mariner and Ranger, as part of its military exercise from California to its naval bases in Yokosuka, Japan, signifying the deployment of the first-ever driverless vessels over an extensive distance.

The initiative was processed with the thought that it may be used in the ongoing conflict against China over Taiwan.

These USVs have given modern warfare an innovative twist where the use of human combat will be reduced, and simultaneously, the casualties that come with war will be reduced, too. The Pentagon seeks to level up its warfare arrangements similar to China’s naval expansion by developing more UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) and USVs (Unmanned Surface Vessels) in the coming years.

While the US Navy is known to be the world’s most powerful military, it still has fewer warships than China.

These arrangements, or we can say developments, are made keeping in mind the rising tensions over Taiwan, which is reclaiming its territory, which Beijing considers part of.

China has three times more technology in its naval strength than the US Navy, but both have their capabilities and advancements in technology.
