2 Dead, 1 Severely Injured After Containership Catches Fire At Port Houston

Two crew members died, and one was severely injured after a containership was on fire docked at the Port of Houston. A person who got in touch with the Port Houston Fire Department regarding a fire on a vessel docked at the Barbours Cut Container Terminal a little before 4 a.m. on Monday, the department informed.

Besides the deceased, the person injured was rushed to the hospital via a helicopter. Port Houston’s report said the fire was extinguished, and the community was not threatened.

However, Port Houston’s Fire Department will monitor the vessel for at least 24 hours. Per the fire department, the Harris County Fire Marshall and medical specialists were conducting their investigations on the spot. Baytown and LaPorte Fire Departments also extended their help.

Per Port Houston, the fire broke on the M/V Stride. The container vessel was constructed in 1997 and has been flying under the Panama flag, per VesselFinder.
