Houthis Claim Responsibility For Missile Attack On Bulk Carrier In Red Sea

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations has reported on Twitter that a bulk carrier flying the flag of Malta, dubbed ZOGRAFIA, has been attacked in the Red Sea. Following the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations report, the 56,900 DWT bulk carrier was reportedly targeted while transiting the Red Sea almost 100 northwest of the al-Saleef.

The firm’s security officer with Vulcanus Technical Maritime Enterprises, the vessel owner, has also reported that an unknown item in the cargo hold struck MV ZOGRAFIA. The vessel was sailing to Israel from Vietnam with 24 crew members when the attack took place. Per the sources, the vessel was empty, and the crew members sustained zero injuries.

Yahya Sarea, the military spokesperson for the Houthis, stated in a statement that Zografia was struck directly on Tuesday when it was sailing toward Israel by naval missiles launched by the Yemeni rebels.

Since November, the Houthis, whom Iran backs, have interfered with maritime trade routes by targeting what they claim to be commercial vessels associated with Israel. The Houthis claim that Israel’s assault on Gaza is the cause of the attacks.
