Seatrium has declared the delivery of Brassavola, the first-ever membrane LNG bunker vessel the firm has made locally in Singapore, to the owner Indah Singa Maritime, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mitsui O.S.K Lines (abbreviated MOL). After the successful delivery, Pavilion Energy will charter Brassavola to supply LNG bunkering at the Port of Singapore. The vessel, expected to commence operations in Feb 2024, will be deployed by TotalEnergies Marine Fuels to cater to customers under a long-term deal with Pavilion Energy.
Pavilion Energy is again a wholly owned Temasek subsidiary headquartered in Singapore. Its global energy business reportedly encompasses natural gas supply, marketing activities in Europe and Southeast Asia, international LNG trading, shipping, optimization, energy hedging, and financial solutions.
Brassavola was constructed on a proprietary design shared by Seatrium’s wholly-owned subsidiary, LMG Marin, adding to the firm’s track record of proven designs of LNG bunker vessels of different capacities. Measuring about 116.5 meters in length and 22.0 meters in width, the vessel also incorporates next-gen technology, including superior loading as well as a faster bunkering rate of approximately 2,000m3 an hour, mass flow metering, and online gas chromatograph systems, for the enhanced bunkering turnover as well as improved operational efficiency. Brassavola uses dual-fuel engines, permitting the vessel to operate on marine LNG for cleaner and lower-carbon operations.
The vessel’s unique reliquefaction tech enables more effective and efficient boil-off gas management that helps lower carbon emissions. The LNG bunker vessel is allowed with two advanced GTT Mark III Flex membrane tanks that boast superior characteristics, which include reduced internal temperature, pressure, and boil-off rate, ensuring more excellent tank durability, safer and more secure fuel transfer operations, and reduced cargo loss via the process of evaporation.
These twin membrane tanks are well-optimized to be considerably lighter and space-saving to permit more cargo-carrying ability and greater fuel efficiency during transportation. Kazuya Hamazaki, the managing executive officer with MOL, says that the fruitful completion of Brassavola is a giant leap forward in transitioning toward using cleaner and more decarbonized fuels such as LNG in Singapore.
The firm also looks forward to seeing Brassavola in its operations soon, setting newer standards in LNG bunkering and strengthening Singapore’s position as an LNG bunkering hub globally.
