The legal advisor to Iran’s president responded to a statement from the US Department of Justice by informing on Thursday that Iran will retaliate if its vessels are confiscated.
The Department of Justice stated this month that more than 500,000 barrels of Iranian petroleum have been seized to disrupt the financing network of the Revolutionary Guards.
Mohammad Dehghan, a legal advisor, stated that if an Iranian vessel is seized, they will reciprocate and ensure that the law is not closed. Yet, he was unable to verify if American officials had captured an Iranian vessel.
Court orders passed by the Iranian judicial system have been the massive grounds for the reported seizures of foreign tankers by Revolutionary Guards.
Since late last year, worldwide shipping has reportedly been disrupted in the waters of the Red Sea as Houthi fighters based in Yemen have constantly targeted vessels to show support toward the Hamas group in its ongoing conflict with Israel.
