The crew of the container vessel MV Dali, consisting of 20 Indians and one Sri Lankan, will remain on board until the investigation is completed.
On March 26, the Grace Ocean Pte-owned and Synergy Marine-managed vessel collided with the bridge, causing its collapse. US authorities have begun interviewing the crew to gather crucial information for their investigation.
The 21 crew members continue their regular duties while cooperating with National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Coast Guard investigators.
Grace Ocean Pte and Synergy Marine confirmed the crew’s presence, emphasising their commitment to assist in the investigation. The duration of the investigation is uncertain, necessitating the crew’s continued presence onboard until its completion.
The Baltimore International Seafarers’ Center has verified the crew’s health, ensuring their well-being.

The crew and local officials also frequently contact the Indian embassy in Washington. Last week, US authorities interviewed the crew and obtained crucial information and documents from the ship.
According to the ship’s management, the crew suffered minor injuries during the collision, and one of them was treated and released from the hospital.
Unfortunately, six construction workers who were working on repairing a bridge at the time of the crash have been reported to have died. Divers found two bodies from a submerged truck, and search operations are still on to see the other fatalities.
US President Joe Biden acknowledged the crew’s warning that they were losing control of the ship. This alert allowed for the prompt closing of the bridge, possibly saving lives.
During the ship’s route to Colombo, Sri Lanka, the collision resulted in a total blackout onboard, indicating engine and power failure just before the collapse.
The crew’s persistent cooperation with investigators demonstrates their commitment to determining what caused the crash.
As the investigation continues, the focus remains on ensuring the crew’s safety and dealing with the consequences of the terrible incident, including finding the construction workers who are thought to have been lost in the crash.
