Glamox Wins Contract To Light World’s Most Eco-Friendly Intermediate-Sized Chemical Tankers

Glamox has secured a deal to light two Vinga series vessels.

These vessels are considered to be the most advanced intermediate-sized and high-end chemical tankers in the world.

They are operated and owned by Sweden-based Furetank AB.

Glamox will offer total indoor and outdoor marine LED lighting for the two recent vessels in this series.

Furetank is dedicated to sustainable shipping and helping customers decarbonise their supply chains.

The firm’s decision to expand the Vinga series is due to the scarcity of ecologically friendly alternatives in the market, explained Lars Höglund, Furetank’s chief executive.

The latest order makes Glamox the lighting partner of Furetank for 19 of the 22 vessels they have commissioned in the series.

The product reliability, quality, and emphasis on sustainability make it a natural partner.

Tommy Stranden, the chief sales and commercial officer associated with Glamox’s Marine, Offshore & Wind, mentioned that Glamox shares Furetank’s dedication to decarbonising the seas.

The company’s energy-efficient lighting will help enable the vessels to save fuel and support the firm’s emission reduction ambitions.

Each vessel will be equipped with nearly 800 LED lights to save energy and fuel costs.

Owing to their long lives, LED lights require almost two-thirds less maintenance than traditional marine lighting.

This represents yet another crucial cost saving.

Like their sisters, the two new vessels boast a dual-fuel capability and operate on liquefied natural gas/biogas or gasoil.

They have features that minimize energy and fuel consumption, resulting in significantly lower emissions of CO2, sulphur, nitrogen oxide, and other hazardous particles.

The vessels have further scored the best Energy Efficiency Design Index or the EEDI value in their segment worldwide, indicating that they are the most energy-efficient vessels per the International Maritime Organization.

Glamox will provide navigation lighting—Series 75, deck and explosion-proof lighting—TX60 LED, flood lighting—RLX C G2 Floodlights, and advanced searchlights—SL40 R5 Xenon for each vessel.

It will also provide all kinds of lighting for the vessel’s interior, including lighting for its engine and storage rooms, corridors, passageways, bridge, galley, and crew quarters.

Marine-certified luminaires included in the lighting package are made in Norway’s Molde.

The eco-friendly Vinga tankers are Ice Class 1A, with a 16,300-deadweight ton (dwt) design by FKAB Marine Design and Furetank.

They’re being constructed by China Merchants Jinling Shipyard (Yangzhou) Dingheng Co. Ltd (Jinling-Dingheng) at the shipyard in China, where lighting will also be installed.

The vessels will be delivered by the end of 2026 and the start of 2027, respectively.

They will then enter the Gothia Tanker Alliance and be operated by Furetank from Gothenburg.

The LED marine-certified lighting for the two new vessels is anticipated to be delivered in Q3 2025.
