German Navy Warship Plays Iconic “Star Wars-Darth Vader Theme” During London Visit

A German Navy warship made a spectacular entry into London, playing the iconic “Imperial March” from the Star Wars as it transited the River Thames.

The Braunschweig F260, a Class K130 corvette, was spotted as the residents gathered near Butler’s Wharf on the South Bank, close to Tower Bridge.

The Star Wars theme, typically linked with the character Darth Vader (antagonist), played when the ship arrived. Sailors on the vessel were dressed in light blue shirts, black trousers, and navy blue life jackets, according to video footage of the event.

The Braunschweig F260, the flagship of the German Navy’s latest corvette fleet, was towed slowly past Butler’s Wharf before Tower Bridge opened, allowing it to pass through and dock alongside HMS Belfast.

The ship was commissioned in 2008. After visiting London, it left for Plymouth, where it was docked by August 21, 2024.

A spokesperson for the German Navy stated that the music selection had “no deeper meaning” and that the commander was free to choose any tune. The commander, a self-proclaimed Star Wars fan, reportedly selects different tracks by renowned composer John Williams when visiting foreign ports.

The German Embassy in London reiterated the statement, citing the commander’s admiration for John Williams’ work as the sole reason for the musical choice.

The warship’s entrance, accompanied by the familiar strains of the “Imperial March,” made for a memorable experience for those who witnessed it, despite the German Navy claiming that the music had no symbolic message.
