Container Ship & Car Carrier Collide Off Danish Coast

Container Ship Maersk Gironde collided with the 6500 CEU Car Carrier SFL Composer on Monday, August 4, 2025, near the entry point of the deepwater route at Hatter Barn, off the Danish island of Sejero.

The accident occurred at 23:16 when the 4544 TEU container ship owned by Maersk was sailing from Wilhelmshaven, Germany, to Gdansk, Poland.

The Liberian-flagged car carrier was heading from Emden to Odense.

Fortunately, no crew members were injured, and the cargo also did not suffer any damage. No pollution was reported as well.

The ship sustained some structural damage and is presently anchored West of Zealand and is waiting for approvals so it can continue its voyage towards Poland.

Per reports, the accident will be thoroughly investigated internally and by authorities as well.

Both vessels have been detained by the Danish Maritime Authority for inspections.

Luckily, there were no oil spills or fires. The SFL Composer is currently being towed to Lindo shipyard for repair and maintenance works.

Both ships are waiting for their damage assessment by their flag states and respective classification societies, the Danish Maritime Authority stated.
