QatarEnergy Receives New LNG Carrier From Hyundai Heavy Industries

The liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Al Zuwair was officially delivered to QatarEnergy on August 18, after being built at the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) Ulsan Shipyard in South Korea.

The vessel will operate under a time-charter agreement with QatarEnergy, one of the world’s largest LNG producers, and will be managed by the NYK Group to support stable energy supplies.

The Al Zuwair is the third of 12 new LNG carriers ordered for QatarEnergy through a joint venture that includes NYK, Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha, MISC Berhad, and China LNG Shipping (Holdings) Limited. While it is the third vessel in the series, this is the first one constructed at HHI and also the first vessel from the project to be managed by NYK.

The ship is equipped with advanced technology to reduce fuel use and cut emissions. It is powered by two X-DF 2.1 iCER dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engines that can run on both fuel oil and boil-off gas.

The vessel has an air lubrication system and a reliquefaction device that recycles excess boil-off gas to further improve efficiency. These features are designed to lower greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and make operations more environmentally friendly.

The Al Zuwair has a cargo capacity of around 174,000 cubic meters. The vessel measures about 299 meters in length and 46.40 meters in beam. It is powered by an X-DF 2.1 iCER dual-fuel slow-speed diesel engine and was built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., Ltd.
