



Two Myanmar crew members have died after a fire broke out in the engine room of the Singapore-registered bulk carrier MANDY off the coast of China.
The incident occurred on February 17 at about 7.35pm Singapore time, according to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA).
MPA said a total of 25 Myanmar nationals were on board at the time.
Two crew members were reported dead and a third was evacuated to a shore medical facility for further treatment.
No Singaporeans were among the crew.
The authority stated that the fire started in the vessel’s engine room and was extinguished by the crew. There were no reports of pollution following the incident.
Arrangements are being made by the company to tow the vessel to Yantai Port in China.
MPA said it has extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and is in contact with the company and the relevant Chinese authorities to provide assistance.
The authority added that it will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
