Navies of the U.S. and India completed a week-long joint maritime exercise to enhance interoperability in maritime patrol and anti-submarine warfare, an official mentioned on Wednesday.
The “Tridents” belonging to the patrol squadron VP-26 (reportedly based in Florida), the US, and the “Albatross” belonging to the Indian Naval Air Squadron 312 participated in this combined anti-submarine warfare.
A VP-26 P-8A Poseidon aircraft associated with the “Tridents” and a P-8I Poseidon aircraft belonging to the Indian Naval Air Squadron participated in the week-long program.
The subject matter specialist exchange focused on boosting interoperability between the two navies’ maritime patrol and reconnaissance forces. It covered training on anti-submarine warfare and information sharing on specific naval problems in the Indian Ocean, per an official release.
The two squadrons participated in non-flying and flying activities, including several discussions on operational planning, logistical support, and maintenance training.
This is a great way of strengthening the partnership with India and improving their ability to work to safeguard maritime commons, explained the detachment officer at VP-26, Lieutenant Ryan Speir.
The P-8A is a capable aircraft that has a crucial role in anti-sub warfare operations, and such a professional exchange would ensure that we can effectively use the asset in a combined environment, he mentioned.
The two squadrons coordinated many flying events with the Indian Navy surface vessels.
The P-8A aircraft is a long-range, multimission maritime patrol aircraft capable of conducting anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, search and rescue, and intelligence surveillance, among other activities.
The “Tridents” of the patrol squadron are, at the moment, forward deployed to the Misawa Air Base in Japan. It conducts a maritime patrol and reconnaissance as part of the rotational deployment to the area of operations of the US 7th Fleet.
The US 7th Fleet is the greatest forward-deployed numbered fleet of the US Navy and interacts touting and operates with partners and allies.
